What this trial studies

This interventional program delivers a course of Alexander Technique sessions to children aged 5–9 diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, focusing on postural tone and upper-limb control. Participants are screened to exclude metabolic disorders, recent surgery or traumatic injury, and significant intellectual disability. Outcomes will include measures of postural control and quality of life before and after the intervention, collected at a single center. The work is conducted at PSRD Hospital in Lahore under sponsorship from Riphah International University.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Children aged 5–9 with a diagnosis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy who do not have metabolic disorders, recent surgery or injury, or significant intellectual disability and who can attend sessions at the Lahore site are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Children with advanced disease, active metabolic or surgical issues, recent traumatic injuries, significant cognitive impairment, or those unable to attend in-person sessions are unlikely to benefit from this program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the program could improve postural control and daily functioning, leading to better quality of life for participating children.

How similar studies have performed: The Alexander Technique has shown modest benefits for posture and motor control in small studies of other conditions, but its use specifically in Duchenne muscular dystrophy is novel and not well established.
