What this trial studies

This study aims to enhance the psychosocial health of adolescents aged 13-17 living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) by implementing a peer-led behavioral intervention designed to increase daily physical activity. Participants will be randomized to either the novel TEAM peer mentor program or standard care over a 12-week period. The study will assess the feasibility, preliminary efficacy, and safety of this intervention, while also exploring contextual factors through qualitative research. The goal is to empower adolescents with T1D to adopt healthier lifestyles and improve their quality of life.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adolescents aged 13-17 with type 1 diabetes who are motivated to increase their daily physical activity and currently use a continuous glucose monitor.

Not a fit: Patients who have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes within the last 12 months or have other significant health issues, such as cancer or eating disorders, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve the physical activity levels and overall psychosocial well-being of adolescents with type 1 diabetes.

How similar studies have performed: While the approach of peer mentoring in diabetes management is gaining attention, this specific model is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in similar studies.
