What this trial studies

This interventional study aims to assess whether playing music during cesarean deliveries enhances patient satisfaction. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a music group or a control group without music, and their satisfaction will be measured using a visual analog scale. Additionally, the study will evaluate the satisfaction of support persons and monitor maternal vital signs before and after the procedure. The findings could lead to a low-cost intervention that improves the surgical experience for patients.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include English-speaking women with singleton pregnancies who are scheduled for a second or third cesarean delivery at Geisinger Medical Center.

Not a fit: Patients with fetal anomalies, multifetal gestation, or those requiring urgent/emergent cesarean deliveries may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a simple and effective way to enhance patient satisfaction during cesarean deliveries.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of music in surgical settings has been explored, this specific approach in cesarean deliveries is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
