What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of a mobile oral health intervention delivered via WhatsApp messages to enhance oral hygiene practices and oral health literacy among orthodontic patients. Participants, aged 16 to 25, who are undergoing their first orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances, will receive tailored oral hygiene instructions through their smartphones. The study aims to compare the outcomes of this mobile intervention against standard oral hygiene instructions to determine its impact on oral hygiene status and health literacy.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are orthodontic patients aged 16 to 25 who are receiving their first treatment with fixed appliances and own a smartphone with WhatsApp.

Not a fit: Patients with systemic diseases affecting oral health, previous orthodontic treatment, or those using removable appliances may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve oral hygiene and health literacy among orthodontic patients, leading to better oral health outcomes.
