What this trial studies

This project focuses on addressing malnutrition in patients with head and neck cancer, a condition affecting a significant percentage of this patient population. It will implement remote patient monitoring and tailored nutrition support throughout the treatment course using a diet recording app. The effectiveness of this approach will be evaluated through a randomized controlled trial, aiming to reduce malnutrition prevalence and enhance the quality of life for participants. The study will involve collaboration between the University of Oslo and Oslo University Hospital.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 years diagnosed with head and neck cancer.

Not a fit: Patients with stage 4 malignant tumors or terminal conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve nutritional status and quality of life for patients undergoing treatment for head and neck cancer.

How similar studies have performed: While there is ongoing research in nutrition support for cancer patients, this specific approach using remote monitoring is relatively novel.
