What this trial studies

This study aims to enhance dietary quality and food security among children and their parents participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) through a longitudinal, randomized, controlled intervention. By focusing on adult education via SNAP-Education (SNAP-Ed), the study seeks to assess the impact on child dietary quality and overall household food security. Participants will undergo repeated dietary recalls and food security assessments to evaluate changes over time. The research builds on previous findings that demonstrated improvements in household food security but less clear changes in adult dietary quality.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include English-speaking households in Indiana with children aged 5-18 who are eligible for SNAP and willing to participate in the study.

Not a fit: Patients who have received SNAP-Ed lessons in the past year or are pregnant or lactating may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved dietary quality and food security for children in low-income households.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies using similar SNAP-Ed interventions have shown promising results in improving household food security, indicating potential for success in this approach.
