Improving neonatal resuscitation skills for nurses
Educational Strategies for Maintaining Technical Skills in Neonatal Resuscitation for the Nursing Team: A Pilot Project

What this trial studies
This pilot study aims to compare two educational methods for maintaining neonatal resuscitation skills among nurses: traditional instructor-led practice and a new peer-guided practice approach. Both methods will utilize a mobile training station for hands-on training sessions lasting 30 minutes, repeated three times over three months. The study will assess the feasibility of these methods by measuring participant satisfaction, recruitment speed, and retention rates, as well as evaluating changes in nurses' confidence and practice behaviors. The goal is to identify effective strategies for ongoing training in neonatal resuscitation.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are registered or practical nurses with at least one year of experience in neonatal care at CHU Sainte-Justine who have completed initial neonatal resuscitation training.
Not a fit: Nurses involved in neonatal transport or those who serve as instructors for neonatal resuscitation training may not benefit from this study due to their advanced expertise.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the technical skills of nurses in neonatal resuscitation, ultimately improving patient outcomes in neonatal care.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that simulation-based training methods can effectively maintain clinical skills, suggesting potential success for this approach.
