What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of small grants and peer support in enhancing mental health among transgender individuals facing material hardship. Participants will be divided into three groups: one receiving a single small grant with financial education, another receiving monthly grants with education, and a third receiving monthly grants, peer mentoring, and education over six months. The study will assess whether these interventions can reduce psychological distress by alleviating material hardship and fostering community connections.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are transgender individuals aged 18 and older who are experiencing material hardship.
Not a fit: Patients who do not identify as transgender or those who cannot provide informed consent in English may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve mental health outcomes for transgender individuals experiencing financial difficulties.
How similar studies have performed: While similar approaches have been explored, this specific combination of microgrants and peer support for transgender individuals is relatively novel.
