What this trial studies

This pilot randomized controlled trial evaluates the CareMeds intervention aimed at enhancing medication adherence among young children (ages 3-9) diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). The study will involve 100 families across multiple sites in Buffalo, NY, and Atlanta, GA, comparing the CareMeds program to usual care. The primary focus is to assess the feasibility of the intervention and gather preliminary efficacy data on behavioral parenting skills and medication adherence. Parents will be actively involved, as they hold primary responsibility for their child's medication management.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are parents of children aged 3-9 years who are diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and are responsible for their child's medication.

Not a fit: Patients whose children are not diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia or are not on home-based oral anti-cancer medication may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve medication adherence in pediatric patients with leukemia, leading to better health outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in improving medication adherence through behavioral interventions, suggesting that this approach may be effective.
