Improving knee extension through a surgical procedure

Functional Outcomes and the Restoration of Range of Motion After the Arthroscopic Complete Posterior Knee Capsulotomy in Patients With Extension Deficit of the Knee

Not applicable Interventional Artromedical Konrad Malinowski Clinic · NCT05385393

What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates the effectiveness of arthroscopic posterior capsulotomy in patients suffering from an extension deficit of the knee that has not improved with guided physiotherapy. The procedure aims to restore the range of motion by addressing contractures in the knee's posterior capsule. Participants will be monitored for functional outcomes and improvements in knee extension following the intervention. The study focuses on individuals who have experienced persistent extension deficits for at least six months despite conservative treatment.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 with a symptomatic extension deficit greater than 3 degrees that has not improved after six months of physiotherapy.

Not a fit: Patients who have regained full knee extension after initial arthrolysis or those with active knee inflammation will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this procedure could significantly enhance the quality of life for patients by restoring full knee extension and reducing associated mechanical stress.

How similar studies have performed: While similar surgical approaches have been explored, this specific intervention for refractory extension deficits is less commonly studied, making it a novel approach.
