What this trial studies
This study aims to address undernutrition in children aged 7-23 months in Pakistan by rehabilitating moderately malnourished children and empowering their mothers to adopt better infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices. The approach involves identifying successful feeding behaviors from well-nourished children in economically disadvantaged homes and transferring these practices to mothers of undernourished children. Interventions include community sensitization, 28-day Positive Deviance/Hearth sessions, and supplemental print information to support behavior change. The ultimate goal is to improve child nutrition and health outcomes in a region facing significant challenges with child malnutrition.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are households with moderately malnourished children aged 7-9 months whose parents can provide consent.
Not a fit: Patients with disabilities that prevent informed consent or those under 18 years of age will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this initiative could significantly reduce rates of child malnutrition and improve health outcomes for children in Pakistan.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in using community-based approaches to improve child nutrition, making this approach promising yet tailored to local needs.
