What this trial studies
This study tests a psychosocial intervention aimed at enhancing immune health literacy and behaviors among adults diagnosed with mental illnesses. Participants from community mental health agencies will be randomly assigned to receive either the intervention, which promotes healthy lifestyle changes and better health management, or standard services alone. The intervention includes education on nutrition, stress management, and the importance of vaccinations and health screenings. Assessments will be conducted at baseline, two months, and five months post-intervention to evaluate changes in self-reported immune status using multivariable analysis models.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with serious mental illnesses who are members of a collaborating community mental health agency.
Not a fit: Patients with cognitive impairments that prevent informed consent or those who cannot communicate in English may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could lead to improved immune health and overall well-being for patients with mental illnesses.
How similar studies have performed: While psychosocial interventions for mental health are common, this specific approach to enhancing immune health literacy is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
