What this trial studies
This community-based feasibility study examines the ENGAGE intervention aimed at reducing social isolation among people with disabilities exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. It focuses on recruitment, retention, adherence, and satisfaction with the intervention, while also assessing preliminary effects on social participation. The study seeks to refine the intervention protocol based on findings to prepare for a larger efficacy trial. By adapting ENGAGE, originally designed for stroke survivors, the study aims to meet the diverse needs of a broader range of individuals with disabilities.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals who self-identify as disabled, report difficulties with social participation, and live in a community setting.
Not a fit: Patients with severe communication impairments that limit their ability to express interest in participation may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly enhance social participation and overall well-being for individuals with disabilities who have been affected by social isolation.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is novel in its adaptation for a broader range of disabilities, similar interventions have shown promise in addressing social isolation in specific populations.
