What this trial studies
This pilot randomized controlled trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a 6-month behavioral health intervention using a Nurturing Care Family Navigator (NCFN) to enhance food security among low-income postpartum women and their children. The NCFN program provides a comprehensive approach that includes screenings for food insecurity, referrals to community resources, and ongoing support to help families navigate barriers related to health, nutrition, early learning, and safety. The study will assess whether this intervention can improve food security levels and increase knowledge about accessing necessary resources.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are low-income postpartum women, aged 18 and older, who are Medicaid recipients or uninsured and have infants up to two weeks old.
Not a fit: Patients who are not postpartum, do not meet the income criteria, or have infants with specific congenital conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve food security and overall well-being for postpartum women and their children.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using navigation programs to address food insecurity, indicating that this approach may be effective.
