Improving fertilization rates in women with previous fertilization failures using calcium ionophores.

Efficacy of Oocyte Activation With Two Types of Ca2+ Ionophore: a Prospective Randomized Study.

Not applicable Interventional Instituto Valenciano de Infertilidad, IVI VALENCIA · NCT06106412

What this trial studies

This study investigates the efficacy of two types of calcium ionophores, ionomycin and A23187, in activating oocytes from women who have experienced fertilization failures in previous cycles. A total of 372 human oocytes from 44 women will be randomly assigned to receive one of the two treatments or serve as a control. The study aims to analyze fertilization rates, embryo development, and embryo quality, as well as follow obstetric outcomes of the offspring. By comparing the effectiveness of these two protocols, the study seeks to determine which method is more beneficial for improving reproductive outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are women using their own oocytes who have previously experienced fertilization failures or have a fertilization rate of 30% or less.

Not a fit: Patients who are oocyte recipients or those with fewer than two mature oocytes after oocyte decumulation may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance fertilization rates and reproductive success for women with a history of fertilization failure.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown improvements in fertilization and pregnancy rates with artificial oocyte activation, but this specific comparison of protocols is novel.
