What this trial studies
This study aims to enhance family functioning by promoting moderate-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) among children aged 6 to 10 and encouraging parent-child co-physical activity. It tests the effectiveness of three different parenting support approaches: promoting physical activity parenting identities combined with self-regulation skills and education, promoting self-regulation skills and education alone, and an education-only control condition. The study will measure changes in family cohesion and organization, as well as child MVPA levels, over a six-month period. The hypothesis is that the identity condition will yield the most significant improvements in these outcomes compared to the other approaches.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include parents of children aged 6 to 10 who currently engage in less than 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day.
Not a fit: Families where children are already meeting the physical activity guidelines of 60 minutes per day may not benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved family dynamics and increased physical activity levels in children, fostering healthier lifestyles.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that family-based interventions can effectively promote physical activity, suggesting potential success for this approach.
