What this trial studies
This clinical trial examines the impact of pediatricians prescribing early math enriching texts to parents of 3-4 year old children in rural Oregon. The study aims to determine how this text intervention affects early math skills, literacy, and parent confidence among under-resourced pre-kindergarten-aged children. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the early math text intervention or standard care, with their math performance assessed before and after the intervention using validated tools. The trial seeks to address the educational disparities faced by children in rural communities.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include parents of 3-4 year old children who receive care at participating rural clinics and are eligible for Medicaid services.
Not a fit: Patients who may not benefit include those with developmental delays or siblings currently enrolled in the study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly enhance early math skills and literacy in young children from under-resourced backgrounds.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in using text interventions to improve early learning outcomes, suggesting a promising approach in this context.
