What this trial studies

This observational study aims to identify technological translation tools that can enhance communication between Dutch-speaking patients and French-speaking healthcare providers in Brussels' out-of-hours primary care services. By conducting focus groups with Dutch-speaking patients, bilingual general practitioners, and representatives from relevant organizations, the study will explore barriers and facilitators to using these tools during consultations. The goal is to improve healthcare access and satisfaction for the Dutch-speaking minority in a bilingual region. Approximately 40 participants will be involved in the focus group discussions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adult Dutch-speaking residents of Brussels seeking out-of-hours primary care.

Not a fit: Patients who do not speak Dutch or French, or those unable to express themselves in these languages, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly improve healthcare access and satisfaction for Dutch-speaking patients in Brussels.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies addressing language barriers in healthcare, this specific approach using technological tools in a bilingual context is relatively novel.
