What this trial studies
This pilot study aims to enhance digital health equity for stroke patients in Central Brooklyn through a community-academic partnership. It will assess the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of a digital health intervention called DESA, utilizing a mixed-methods approach that includes qualitative assessments and telehealth encounters. The study will involve a randomized control trial with 50 participants receiving the intervention and 30 receiving usual care, focusing on African American and Afro-Caribbean stroke survivors. The findings will inform future larger-scale studies and address health disparities in this population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are African American or Afro-Caribbean adults aged 18 and over who have experienced a stroke within the last six years.
Not a fit: Patients with severe mental illness, dementia, non-English speakers, aphasia, or severe dysarthria may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve access to stroke care and health outcomes for underserved populations.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative in its specific focus on digital health equity for stroke patients, similar studies have shown promise in utilizing telehealth to improve patient outcomes.
