Improving diagnosis of legume allergies

Comparison of Prick-to-prick Testing, Extract-specific IgE Antibody Testing and Component Resolved Diagnosis (CRD) in Diagnosing of Allergy to Peas, Lentils, Chickpeas and Green Beans

Observational University Hospital Pilsen · NCT06923878

What this trial studies

This study aims to enhance the diagnosis of food allergies, particularly to legumes like peas, lentils, chickpeas, and green beans. It will compare traditional allergy testing methods, including skin prick tests and specific IgE antibody testing, with a newer approach that tests for specific IgE antibodies against allergenic molecules in legumes. The effectiveness of these tests will be evaluated against the oral food challenge, which is the gold standard for diagnosing food allergies. The study seeks to address the often-overlooked prevalence of legume allergies and improve diagnostic accuracy.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 65 or younger with a history of immediate allergic reactions to legumes and positive allergy test results.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of severe systemic allergic reactions to legumes or those unwilling to undergo an oral food challenge may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more accurate diagnoses of legume allergies, improving patient management and safety.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically on the diagnosis of legume allergies using these methods, similar approaches in food allergy diagnostics have shown promise.
