What this trial studies
This project tests a multi-component behavioral intervention aimed at enhancing metabolic control in older adolescents and emerging adults aged 16-25 with Type 1 diabetes. Grounded in self-determination theory, the intervention focuses on fostering autonomy in diabetes management through tools like a question prompt list and motivational enhancement strategies. By empowering participants to take an active role in their care, the study seeks to address the chronic poor metabolic control often seen in this age group. The findings could inform future interventions for similar populations with chronic illnesses.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 16 to 25 with Type 1 diabetes and an HbA1c of 7.5% or higher.
Not a fit: Patients with psychosis, severe developmental delays, or other physical health conditions affecting diabetes management may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve diabetes management and metabolic control in young adults with Type 1 diabetes.
How similar studies have performed: While there are few interventions specifically targeting emerging adults with Type 1 diabetes, similar approaches in chronic illness management have shown promise, suggesting potential for success.
