What this trial studies
This is a prospective, anonymous pre-post survey of patients with head and neck cancer and practicing dentists in Germany. Participants complete an online baseline questionnaire about demographics, knowledge, behaviors, attitudes, and experiences related to dental care, then receive concise, guideline-based written information and complete a follow-up questionnaire. Patients are recruited via national and regional self-help networks and direct contact, while dentists receive postal invitations linked to the online survey. Data are collected in accordance with University Medical Center Göttingen data protection rules and, because responses are anonymous, cannot be withdrawn after submission.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal participants are adults in Germany with head and neck cancer who can read German and complete an online questionnaire, as well as practicing dentists in Germany listed in the OAK-Verlag address database.
Not a fit: People who cannot read German, are too unwell to complete an online questionnaire, or live outside Germany are unlikely to benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the intervention could lead to clearer guidance and better coordination of dental care, reducing oral complications and improving patient experience during cancer treatment.
How similar studies have performed: Related pre-post educational surveys in oncology and dental settings have improved knowledge and attitudes, though applying this combined patient-and-dentist approach specifically to head and neck cancer is relatively novel.
