What this trial studies
This study tests the effectiveness of an information visualization dashboard designed to enhance decision-making for ICU providers compared to traditional electronic health records (EHRs). It employs a randomized controlled trial with crossover design to evaluate the dashboard's impact on efficiency and performance. The study addresses the challenges of information overload faced by ICU clinicians, who must synthesize vast amounts of patient data daily. By utilizing a mixed methods approach, including eye-tracking and surveys, the research aims to assess how current EHR interfaces affect clinician workload and satisfaction.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are ICU physicians and advanced practice providers who actively use an institutional EHR.
Not a fit: Patients who are non-ICU physicians or advanced practice providers, or residents without prior ICU experience, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved decision-making and reduced medical errors in critical care settings.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in improving clinical decision-making through enhanced data visualization techniques, indicating potential for success in this approach.
