Improving bronchiolitis treatment in hospitalized children using electronic health records
Use of a BPA to Promote High Value Care in Bronchiolitis: A Randomized Controlled Study
This study is testing if using reminders in electronic health records can help doctors give better care to kids in the hospital with bronchiolitis by reducing unnecessary treatments.

What this trial studies
This experimental study aims to determine if best practice advisories (BPAs) within electronic health records (EHR) can enhance the delivery of evidence-based care for children hospitalized with bronchiolitis. Researchers will compare outcomes for patients whose clinicians received different types of BPAs—either interruptive or non-interruptive—against those who received no BPA at all. The study focuses on whether these advisories can reduce unnecessary treatments and improve adherence to clinical guidelines for bronchiolitis care. Standard hospital care will continue for all patients involved in the study.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include children aged 24 months or younger who are presenting to the emergency room or are hospitalized with bronchiolitis.
Not a fit: Patients who are currently in an ICU or have a length of stay greater than 14 days may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved treatment outcomes and reduced unnecessary interventions for children with bronchiolitis.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using electronic health record tools to improve clinical decision-making, suggesting this approach could be effective.
