What this trial studies
This study aims to enhance breast cancer screening rates among women in the White Mountain Apache community by evaluating two interventions: a culturally tailored education module (CARE) and an enhanced version that includes access to a health coach (CARE+COACH). Participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups, with the primary goal of measuring mammography uptake within two months of referral. The interventions were developed through a community-based participatory research process to ensure cultural relevance and effectiveness.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are American Indian or Alaska Native women who have been referred for screening mammography and live within 60 miles of the Fort Apache Indian Reservation.
Not a fit: Patients who have had a mammogram in the past 12 months or have a personal history of breast cancer may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly increase breast cancer screening rates among American Indian women, leading to earlier detection and better health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with culturally tailored interventions for health promotion, suggesting a positive outlook for this approach.
