What this trial studies

This pilot feasibility study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the MINDGAPS system, a novel intervention designed to enhance vestibular function and alleviate dizziness in older adults experiencing vestibular hypofunction. The study will assess the safety, feasibility, and acceptability of this system, which utilizes wearable sensor technology for precise measurement of gaze and postural stability. By addressing barriers to adherence and monitoring in vestibular rehabilitation, this research seeks to personalize treatment and improve patient outcomes. The findings will inform future large-scale investigations.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are community-dwelling older adults who report issues with dizziness or imbalance and have been diagnosed with peripheral vestibular hypofunction.

Not a fit: Patients with cervical spine disorders, oculomotor palsy, or centrally mediated vestibular dysfunction may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved balance and reduced risk of falls for older adults suffering from vestibular hypofunction.

How similar studies have performed: While vestibular rehabilitation has shown efficacy in controlled trials, this specific approach utilizing wearable technology is novel and has not been extensively tested.
