What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of action observation therapy combined with Otago exercises to enhance balance and quality of life in older adults. The intervention involves participants watching instructional videos on balance exercises while seated, followed by performing the exercises themselves. The Otago Exercise Program focuses on muscle strength, balance training, and walking, tailored to individual capabilities, and is designed to be performed in a home setting. By addressing balance issues, the study seeks to reduce the risk of falls and associated injuries in the elderly population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are older adults who have experienced at least one fall in the past six months and have a Berg Balance score between 20 to 40.
Not a fit: Patients with abnormalities in their visual, auditory, or vestibular systems, as well as those with recent fractures or certain medical conditions, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve balance and overall quality of life for older adults, reducing fall-related injuries.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using similar therapeutic approaches to improve balance and prevent falls in older adults, indicating potential for success.
