What this trial studies
This research aims to develop and evaluate a mobile health communication intervention to enhance asthma medication adherence among rural Latino children in South Carolina. The study addresses the unique challenges faced by these families, such as transportation and work constraints, by utilizing a bilingual mobile app that facilitates collaboration between children, their families, school nurses, and primary care providers. The intervention includes producing a Spanish translation of an existing asthma management app and assessing its usability with Latino parents. The goal is to create a patient-centered approach to asthma management that is accessible and effective for this population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include school-aged children (5-18 years) who identify as Hispanic/Latino or African American, have a diagnosis of asthma, and are taking a controller medication.
Not a fit: Patients who do not identify as Hispanic/Latino or African American, or those who do not have a diagnosis of asthma, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve asthma control and reduce hospital visits for rural Latino children.
