What this trial studies

This intervention aims to enhance health equity for children aged 5 to 16.9 years who are admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for asthma. The study focuses on identifying factors that affect asthma self-management and testing the effectiveness of a personalized asthma navigator intervention at the time of PICU discharge. By addressing social determinants of health, the intervention seeks to improve outcomes for disadvantaged children, particularly those from low-opportunity neighborhoods. The study is conducted at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, where a significant proportion of asthma admissions come from these areas.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 5 to 16.9 years who have been admitted to the PICU for asthma.

Not a fit: Patients with conditions such as cystic fibrosis, immune deficiencies, or congenital airway deformities may not benefit from this intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve asthma management and health outcomes for disadvantaged children.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in addressing health disparities through targeted interventions, making this approach both relevant and potentially impactful.
