Improving acute dialysis delivery in Alberta's ICUs
Dialyzing Wisely - Improving the Delivery of Acute Renal Replacement Therapy to Albertans
University of Alberta · NCT05186636

What this trial studies
This study aims to implement an evidence-based pathway for acute renal replacement therapy (RRT) in intensive care units (ICUs) across Alberta. By standardizing the prescription and delivery of acute dialysis, the program seeks to enhance patient outcomes while reducing costs associated with acute dialysis treatment. The initiative involves collaboration among a specialized team of healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective care for critically ill patients. The study will utilize key performance indicator reports and prescriber reports to monitor and improve the delivery of care.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include critically ill patients in adult and pediatric ICUs in Alberta who require acute renal replacement therapy as part of their clinical care.
Not a fit: Patients who do not require acute renal replacement therapy or are not admitted to participating ICUs may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could lead to improved patient-reported outcomes and reduced healthcare costs for acute dialysis in critically ill patients.
How similar studies have performed: While similar approaches have been explored, this specific implementation of a standardized acute dialysis pathway is novel in Alberta's ICUs.
