What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of the Bedside Notes intervention, which provides parents of hospitalized children with real-time access to their child's medical notes via a bedside tablet. The study aims to enhance parental engagement in care and improve safety reporting by allowing parents to identify potential safety concerns. Participants will be randomly assigned to either use the Bedside Notes tool or receive usual care, and outcomes will be measured through note access, parent-reported safety concerns, and overall experiences. The trial is guided by the Systems Engineering Initiative for Patient Safety 2.0 framework and involves multiple pediatric centers.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include English and Spanish-speaking parents or guardians of children under 12 years old who are hospitalized on a general pediatric service.
Not a fit: Parents of children aged 12 years and older or those unable to provide informed consent may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly enhance parental involvement in their child's care and improve patient safety outcomes.
