What this trial studies

This clinical trial focuses on the application of the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocol in patients undergoing esophagectomy with simultaneous reconstruction for esophageal diseases. The study involves a multidisciplinary team and has modified various aspects of the ERAS protocol to improve patient outcomes, including the elimination of the nasogastric tube and cervical drainage. Since 2011, approximately 400 patients have participated in this protocol, which aims to reduce postoperative complications and enhance recovery. The trial evaluates the effectiveness of these interventions in patients with both benign and malignant esophageal conditions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults with esophageal diseases who require surgical intervention.

Not a fit: Patients under 18 years old or those who do not require surgery will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce postoperative complications and improve recovery times for patients undergoing esophageal surgery.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with the ERAS protocol in various surgical settings, indicating a promising approach for esophageal surgery as well.
