What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effects of robotic surgery on the functional outcomes and quality of life in older patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer. It involves a geriatric assessment to determine the suitability of patients aged 70 and above for the surgical procedure. The study aims to gather prospective data on how robotic surgery influences recovery and overall well-being in this demographic. By focusing on older adults, the research seeks to address specific challenges and outcomes related to geriatric patients undergoing surgery.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients aged 70 years and older who have been diagnosed with colorectal cancer and are deemed suitable for surgery.

Not a fit: Patients who may not benefit from this study include those with a decline in cognitive function, those requiring emergency surgery, or those with a life expectancy of less than three months.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the understanding of how robotic surgery improves recovery and quality of life for older patients with colorectal cancer.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results regarding the benefits of robotic surgery in older populations, suggesting that this approach may be effective, though this specific focus on quality of life in geriatric patients is relatively novel.
