What this trial studies
This study aims to characterize the effects of abdomino-pelvic radiotherapy on physical symptoms and quality of life in childhood and young adult cancer survivors. It focuses on patients who underwent treatment between 2000 and 2021 and were under 24 years old at the time of treatment. By assessing the severity of gastrointestinal and urinary symptoms, as well as sexual dysfunction, the study seeks to fill the data gap in this vulnerable population and improve aftercare strategies. The findings will help clinicians better understand the experiences of young cancer survivors and enhance communication with them.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are childhood and young adult cancer survivors who received abdomino-pelvic radiotherapy and completed treatment between 2000 and 2021.
Not a fit: Patients who received total body irradiation or spinal radiation, or those who have died or moved abroad, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved aftercare and management strategies for childhood cancer survivors experiencing long-term effects of radiotherapy.
How similar studies have performed: While there is extensive data on pelvic radiation disease in adult survivors, this study addresses a novel area with limited existing research in the pediatric population.
