Impact of Non-invasive Ventilation on Mortality in Elderly Patients with Cardiogenic Pulmonary Edema
Cardiogenic Acute Pulmonary Edema in Subjects Over 75 Years Old: Impact of Non-invasive Ventilation on Mortality
This study is testing if using non-invasive ventilation can help older patients with heart-related lung fluid build-up live longer compared to standard treatment alone.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the effect of non-invasive ventilation (NIV) on mortality rates in patients over 75 years old diagnosed with cardiogenic acute pulmonary edema (APO) who are admitted to the emergency room. The study will compare outcomes between those receiving NIV and those receiving standard medical treatment alone. By focusing on this elderly population, the research seeks to clarify the potential benefits of NIV in improving survival rates and clinical outcomes. The study will track participants for up to six months post-admission to evaluate mortality impacts.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 75 years old who are admitted to the emergency room with a diagnosis of cardiogenic acute pulmonary edema.
Not a fit: Patients who may not benefit from this study include those with respiratory distress due to pneumonia or other diagnoses, or those with contraindications to non-invasive ventilation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide evidence supporting the use of non-invasive ventilation to improve survival rates in elderly patients with cardiogenic pulmonary edema.
How similar studies have performed: While the effectiveness of non-invasive ventilation in managing acute pulmonary edema has been established, the specific impact on mortality in elderly patients remains less defined, indicating this study may explore a novel area.
