Impact of neck position on endotracheal tube cuff pressure in children
The Effect of Neck Hyperextension on Endotracheal Tube Cuff Pressure in Children

What this trial studies
This observational study examines how neck hyperextension affects the cuff pressure of endotracheal tubes in children undergoing adenoidectomy or tonsillectomy surgeries. It aims to ensure that cuff pressure remains within a safe range to prevent complications such as air leakage or tracheal injury. By measuring cuff pressure during different head and neck positions, the study seeks to identify optimal positioning for maintaining safe cuff inflation. The findings could enhance patient safety during surgeries requiring general anesthesia.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 2-18 years scheduled for adenoidectomy, tonsillectomy, or adenotonsillectomy.
Not a fit: Patients with restricted neck mobility, intraoperative complications, previous neck surgeries, or a BMI over 35 kg/m2 may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve the safety and effectiveness of anesthesia management in pediatric surgeries.
How similar studies have performed: While there may be limited studies directly addressing this specific approach, the importance of cuff pressure management in anesthesia is well-documented, suggesting potential for meaningful insights.
