What this trial studies
This observational study evaluates how malnutrition affects liver and spleen stiffness in children using shear wave elastography. It includes two groups: children diagnosed with malnutrition and age-matched healthy controls. Participants will undergo non-invasive measurements of organ stiffness performed by a pediatric radiologist who is unaware of their nutritional status. The study aims to provide insights into the early organ-level changes associated with pediatric malnutrition.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 6 to 18 years diagnosed with malnutrition according to WHO criteria.
Not a fit: Patients with chronic diseases or those who have undergone liver or spleen surgery may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better understanding and early detection of organ damage in malnourished children.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on this specific approach, similar studies using elastography have shown promise in assessing organ stiffness in various conditions.
