What this trial studies
This study recruits 400 participants from the SCOT-HEART 2 trial to assess how receiving information about heart disease risk affects lifestyle choices such as diet, activity, and smoking. Participants will complete detailed questionnaires at the beginning and six months later, alongside simple health assessments like blood pressure and carbon monoxide breath tests. The study also aims to evaluate the effectiveness of different methods of communicating CT scan results to patients. By understanding these effects, the study seeks to improve patient education and lifestyle interventions for coronary artery disease prevention.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals enrolled in the SCOT-HEART 2 trial who are at risk for coronary artery disease.
Not a fit: Patients not enrolled in the SCOT-HEART 2 trial will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved lifestyle changes in patients at risk of coronary artery disease, enhancing their overall health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown that providing patients with clear information about their health risks can lead to positive lifestyle changes, suggesting this approach may be effective.
