Impact of fresh gas flow on carbon monoxide levels and recovery in kids after heart surgery
Effects of Different Fresh Gas Flows on Carboxyhemoglobin Levels

What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the effects of low flow versus high flow anesthesia on carboxyhemoglobin levels and postoperative outcomes in pediatric patients undergoing elective cardiac surgery. It aims to determine whether different fresh gas flows influence carbon monoxide accumulation and overall recovery metrics. The study will include children aged 2 months to 7 years with specific ASA scores, while excluding those with certain respiratory conditions or requiring emergency interventions.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 2 months to 7 years undergoing elective cardiac surgery with ASA scores II or III.
Not a fit: Patients undergoing emergency surgery or those with specific respiratory conditions will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance anesthesia practices, leading to improved recovery and safety for pediatric cardiac surgery patients.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on anesthesia flow rates, this specific investigation into pediatric outcomes with low versus high flow anesthesia is relatively novel.
