What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effects of two types of omega-3 oil supplements—a whole, unprocessed salmon oil and a standard, processed omega-3 oil—on the omega-3 index and various markers of cardiometabolic health in healthy adults. It aims to determine whether these supplements can effectively improve inflammation, oxidative stress, cholesterol levels, and diabetes risk. Additionally, the study will assess changes in sleep metrics using questionnaires and wearable devices. Participants will be monitored over a specified period to measure these health outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are healthy, non-pregnant adults aged 40-80 years with stable body weight.

Not a fit: Patients with fish or seafood allergies, those already taking fish oil supplements, or individuals with certain health conditions like diabetes may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into more effective omega-3 supplementation strategies that enhance cardiometabolic health.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on omega-3 supplementation, this specific comparison of whole salmon oil versus processed omega-3 oil is relatively novel.
