What this trial studies
This observational study examines the effects of COVID-19 lockdown strategies on older adults suffering from dementia and cognitive impairment. By linking comprehensive data from two large health studies in Norway with health register data, the research aims to assess changes in healthcare service usage and medication during the pandemic. Additionally, a survey will be conducted to gather insights on social isolation and the use of communication technology from March 2020 to January 2021. The findings will provide valuable information to enhance healthcare responses for this vulnerable population during pandemics.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are older adults living in Norway who have been diagnosed with dementia or cognitive impairment.
Not a fit: Patients who do not have cognitive impairment or dementia may not receive any benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved healthcare strategies that better support older adults with dementia during future pandemics.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have indicated that understanding the impact of social isolation on older adults can lead to better healthcare practices, suggesting potential success for this approach.
