What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the anxiety levels of patients before and after the withdrawal of chest tubes following video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). It aims to assess the pain experienced during the chest tube removal process and explore the correlation between pre-procedure anxiety and pain levels. The study focuses on patients aged 18-65 who have undergone specific types of VATS procedures and have a single chest tube inserted. By understanding these dynamics, the study seeks to provide insights into managing patient anxiety related to chest tube withdrawal.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18-65 with a BMI between 18-35 who have undergone VATS with a single chest tube inserted.
Not a fit: Patients who have undergone emergency surgery, thoracotomy, or have chronic pain conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved management strategies for reducing anxiety and pain associated with chest tube withdrawal in thoracic surgery patients.
How similar studies have performed: There is limited literature on anxiety related to chest tube withdrawal, making this study a novel exploration in this area.
