What this trial studies

This study investigates the effectiveness of a tailored cardiac rehabilitation program combined with patient education for individuals undergoing their first atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation. It is a single-center, prospective, randomized controlled trial conducted at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the comprehensive rehabilitation intervention or standard care, with the intervention including exercise training and lifestyle education. The aim is to determine if this approach improves outcomes compared to the usual care provided to AF ablation patients.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who are scheduled for their first AF ablation procedure.

Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, unable to consent, or have significant health issues preventing safe participation will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance recovery and outcomes for patients undergoing AF ablation through improved physical fitness and education.

How similar studies have performed: While cardiac rehabilitation is established for coronary heart disease, this specific approach for AF ablation is novel and has not been extensively tested.
