What this trial studies
Patients with gynecologic cancer who are scheduled for elective surgery under an Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) pathway will be assigned to receive an oral immunonutrition supplement before and after their operation or to receive conventional perioperative care. Nutritional and functional measures, as well as postoperative outcomes such as complications and length of stay, will be compared between the groups. The intervention is provided around the time of surgery and outcomes are measured in the postoperative period. The trial is conducted at Institut Kanser Negara in Putrajaya and excludes patients with gastrointestinal tract complications, metastatic disease, or relevant allergies.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: People diagnosed with gynecologic cancer who are scheduled for elective surgery, who do not have GI tract complications or metastatic disease, and who are not allergic to milk/soy/whey and not enrolled in another interventional study.
Not a fit: Patients with gastrointestinal tract complications, metastatic gynecologic cancer, relevant food allergies, or those needing emergency surgery are unlikely to benefit from this protocol.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could help patients maintain better nutrition, recover function more quickly, and experience fewer post-surgical complications.
How similar studies have performed: Perioperative immunonutrition has shown benefits in reducing complications and improving outcomes in some major abdominal cancer surgeries, though evidence specific to gynecologic cancer is more limited.
