What this trial studies

This open-label, randomized pilot trial at a single center will randomize day-shift nurses to receive a short hypnotic immersive VR session during their scheduled 9:00–9:15 coffee break or to usual rest. Anxiety will be measured immediately before and after the break using standardized scales and the analysis will follow an intention-to-treat approach. Secondary outcomes include nurse satisfaction with the break experience. The protocol excludes night-shift nurses and those with contraindications to immersive VR such as photosensitive epilepsy or severe vestibular disorders.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are day-shift nurses at the Montauban clinic who have a scheduled 9:00 coffee break, consent to participate, and have no contraindications to immersive VR.

Not a fit: Nurses with photosensitive epilepsy, unstable vestibular disorders, severe motion sickness, those on night shifts, or those unable to participate during work hours are unlikely to benefit from this intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this could provide a quick, non-drug way for nurses to lower anxiety and improve rest and job satisfaction during their shift.

How similar studies have performed: Immersive VR and hypnotic VR interventions have shown anxiety-reducing effects in other patient groups in prior randomized studies, but evidence specifically in nursing staff is limited.
