Imaging platform for assessing tumor margins during surgery
Microscopy Imaging of Whole-mount Stained Human Tissues: Development of an Imaging Platform for Intraoperative Tumor Margin Delineation
This study is testing a new imaging tool to help surgeons quickly check tumor samples during surgery for skin, brain, and breast cancer to see if it can improve how well they remove the tumors.

What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to develop an innovative imaging platform for the rapid assessment of surgical specimens from patients with tumors of the skin, brain, and breast. By utilizing whole-mount H&E staining, the study seeks to eliminate the need for traditional fixation, embedding, and cryosectioning methods used in conventional histopathology. The trial will involve 250 participants who will provide small samples of their tumor tissues during surgery, allowing researchers to compare these with normal specimens to evaluate differences. The goal is to enhance intraoperative tumor margin delineation, potentially improving surgical outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients over 20 years old diagnosed with skin, brain, or breast tumors.
Not a fit: Patients who cannot communicate effectively or have tumors smaller than 1 centimeter may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to more accurate tumor margin assessments during surgery, reducing the likelihood of cancer recurrence.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in improving intraoperative assessments, suggesting potential for success.
Eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria: 1. Patients who are more than 20 years old. 2. Diagnosed as patients suffered by skin tumor, brain tumor and breast tumor. Exclusion Criteria: 1. Patients who can't speak and communicate with others. 2. Patients who can't make eventual and exact pathological assessment for his/her diseases. 3. Patients who only can fit for slicing tumor. 4. Removed tissues which obviously vary after severe ray radiation under microscopy observation. 5. Diameter of tumors are under 1 centimeter. 6. Breast carcinoma in situ.
