What this trial studies

This observational study aims to collect longitudinal biological samples and survey data from patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) to identify the microbial and human molecular triggers of IBD relapses. The study will explore microbial and human pathways associated with flares that could be targeted for nutritional interventions with therapeutic potential. Additionally, it seeks to identify biomarkers for diagnosing IBD and to understand microbial functions related to the release of BH4.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients diagnosed with IBD who are receiving care at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina.

Not a fit: Patients with a current cancer diagnosis or those under 18 years old may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better management strategies for IBD patients by identifying specific triggers and potential therapeutic targets.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies exploring the microbiome in relation to IBD, this specific approach focusing on longitudinal triggers is relatively novel.
