Identifying risk factors for melanoma in young people

Identification of Risk Factors, Exposomics and Genetic Susceptibility of Melanoma in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults - Novel Health Care Strategies for Melanoma in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults (MELCAYA)

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to identify environmental and genetic factors that contribute to the risk and progression of melanoma in children, adolescents, and young adults. By collecting data from various epidemiological and clinical registries across Europe, the study seeks to create a large dataset for comprehensive analysis. It will integrate genetic information with environmental data, such as climate and pollution, to develop a weighted risk score. Additionally, the study will analyze germline mutations and perform genome and transcriptome sequencing to enhance understanding of melanoma etiology and inform prevention strategies.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 30 years or younger who have a confirmed diagnosis of melanoma.

Not a fit: Patients without available biological material or those who do not provide informed consent may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved primary prevention strategies for melanoma in young individuals.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in identifying risk factors for melanoma, but this approach of integrating exposomic data with genetic analysis is relatively novel.
