Identifying risk factors for hospitalization after falls in older adults

Research Into Risk Factors for Hospitalization Following a Fall in Older Patients

University Hospital, Strasbourg, France · NCT06493201

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to investigate the risk factors that lead to hospitalization following falls in older patients. By focusing on modifiable functional risk factors, such as gait parameters, the study seeks to identify early indicators of hospitalization risk. Participants will include older adults who have experienced at least one fall and are able to walk independently. The findings could inform rehabilitation strategies to prevent hospitalizations in this vulnerable population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals over 65 years old who have experienced at least one fall and can walk without assistance.

Not a fit: Patients who are unable to walk independently or have not experienced a fall may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved rehabilitation strategies that reduce hospitalizations for older adults after falls.

How similar studies have performed: While the risk factors for falls are well-known, this specific focus on hospitalization risk factors in older adults is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
