What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate the risk factors and prognosis associated with frequent acute asthma exacerbations. It will compare the clinical, inflammatory, and environmental characteristics of patients experiencing frequent exacerbations with those who do not. By focusing on a larger and more diverse patient population, the study seeks to uncover distinct phenotypes of asthma that may contribute to these exacerbations. The findings could lead to improved management strategies for asthma patients.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients diagnosed with asthma who are attending the outpatient clinic at Peking University Third Hospital.
Not a fit: Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchiectasis, or other severe comorbidities may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better identification and management of patients at risk for frequent asthma exacerbations.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have indicated the importance of understanding asthma phenotypes, but this approach of focusing on frequent exacerbations in a larger cohort is relatively novel.
